In Memoriam

Thomas J. Hennessy, our dear friend, passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2011, at the age of 83, in his St. Petersburg home under Hospice care. The youngest of five children, Tom was born on April 23, 1928, in St. Petersburg to the late AEneas P. Hennessy and former Madeleine Kelly. In 1920, his father, an Irish immigrant, founded A.P. Hennessy Construction in St. Petersburg. Tom graduated from St. Paul's High School in St. Petersburg in 1946. He later attended St. Petersburg Junior College and Stetson University of DeLand. In 1950, he and his brother retained ownership of A.P. Hennessy & Sons, Inc. They built city landmarks such as Webb City Supermarket & Warehouse and the Museum of Fine Arts, and did extensive construction for the Diocese of St. Petersburg, the City of St. Petersburg, Florida Power, and MacDill Air Force base in Tampa . In 1983, the family business was sold. Tom stayed close to the new ownership of Hennessy and was often in the office visiting with our employees. We all enjoyed Tom’s great sense of humor and the many stories he shared of the early days at Hennessy. Tom helped with Hennessy’s 90th Anniversary Celebration in 2010, and he, as well as a large group of the extended Hennessy family, attended the event, held at the Museum of Fine Arts. We will miss his telephone calls and visits to our office. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his lovely wife of 62 years, Barbara G. Hennessy and family.

Community Involvement

Hennessy takes great pride in our community and our role as a responsible corporate citizen. Our employees volunteer their time and talent to a number of organizations in the area. Hennessy also builds needed projects for no fee, or sometimes even at no cost to charitable organizations, and assists with their various fund raising efforts.
