Albert Whitted Park - City of St. Petersburg
A former parking lot, this beautiful new waterfront park features a solar powered public restroom, state-of-the-art playground area with an aviation theme, shade structures with picnic tables, and areas to view the incoming air traffic at the adjacent Albert Whitted Airport.

The design was molded around the annual Grand Prix event, as was the construction schedule in order to accommodate the City’s commitments and needs for that event.

A public dedication and grand opening ceremony was held February 10, 2008 to introduce the new park to the community.

Mahaffey Theater Renovation & Addition - City of St. Petersburg
Mahaffey Theater Renovation & Addition - City of St. Petersburg
As a pre-qualified construction manager for the City's Capital Improvements program, Hennessy Construction Services was selected for renovation of the Mahaffey Theater. The demolition of Bayfront Arena in 2004 cleared the way for extensive improvements that will keep the 2000 seat performing arts center as a prominent free standing venue on the City’s waterfront.

The scope of work included renovation of approximately 95,000 square feet and replacement of the building’s mechanical, plumbing, fire protection and electrical systems. Two new 3-story showcase glass atriums highlight the south and east elevations. A 4,000 square foot addition provided a new lobby, new elevators, new stairwells and new public restrooms. The entire building received new roofing and exterior stucco skin. Work also included the addition of an elevator in the adjacent parking garage and improvements to the parking lot, sidewalks and landscaping.

Hillsborough County Lake Park Water Station Renovation & Addition
Hillsborough County Lake Park Water Station Renovation & Addition
In February 2002, the County hired Hennessy as a General Contractor to construct a new storm hardened building over the existing structure for Category 4 hurricane protection.

The overall project included enveloping the existing 8,010 square foot structure in 12” structural split face masonry block with steel roof system and enlarging the building to create a 16,000 square foot storm hardened facility. Work also included building a new, separate 445 square foot structure to house the on-site chlorine generation system. This on-site chlorine generation system is one of the first large scale systems to be installed in Hillsborough County. Major building code upgrades, a new mechanical system and extensive sitework were included in the scope.

Hennessy worked closely with FleischmanGarcia Architecture to overcome schedule challenges that were a result of unforeseen conditions requiring removal of existing underground pipe. Fortunately, Hennessy’s own site crew handled these delays and the overall schedule was not impacted.  The project was finished within the original contract budget.

Tampa-Hillsborough County Expressway Authority Transportation Management Center
Tampa-Hillsborough County Expressway Authority Transportation Management Center
Located at the intersection of Meridian and Twiggs in the Channel District of downtown Tampa, this building is the gateway to the Selmon Crosstown Expressway that features reversible lane vehicular transportation. The Transportation Management Center is the headquarters for the Expressway Authority and also houses the City of Tampa’s traffic control room and support facilities. The construction of this project required close coordination with those of the "Intelligent Transportation System" designer.  Sophisticated electrical systems with UPS and generator equipment back-up for electrical devices, lightning and surge protection equipment were key to the success of the project.

Hennessy was chosen for this project through an RFQ and interview process. After selection, we worked together with the Authority and FleischmanGarcia Architecture. Taking the project from conceptual design through 100% construction documents, we reviewed constructability issues and provided budget estimates at schematic design, design development and at 50% construction documents. This allowed us to continue design, while maintaining the owner's budget.
