Founded in 1920, with a focus on customer service and satisfaction, Hennessy's reputation for quality has earned us many repeat clients. We have been instrumental in building and restoring many of St. Petersburg's local landmarks and institutions, some of which include the Museum of Fine Arts St. Petersburg, Mahaffey Theater, St. Anthony's Hospital, Resurrection House, St. Petersburg Museum of History, Jim and Heather Gills YMCA, Childs Park YMCA Community Center, The Salvation Army Sallie House and Children's Village, and Hennessy's very first project – St. Mary Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in downtown St. Petersburg.

Childs Park YMCA
The new Childs Park YMCA is a 15,000 sf, state-of-the-art facility for the YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg. The building’s structure consists primarily of pre-finished split face block, structural steel, concrete beams and columns, and wood trusses with standing seam metal roof. It also features a Daikin mini-split HVAC system that works in conjunction with an Aaon system, which provides 100% outside air.

The new building is designated for programs focused on serving the needs of the Childs Park community, including a large multipurpose room, meeting rooms, a St. Petersburg micro library, police substation, and an office for the Junior Rattlers Football League.

Jim & Heather Gills YMCA

The construction of this new facility in the heart of St. Petersburg has spurred a revitalization to a once depressed economic sector of Pinellas County.

The Mediterranean style structure features a zero-entry indoor pool, special needs locker rooms, whirlpool, water slide, sauna, and a climbing wall with cave section and ropes course. Other amenities are a multi-court gymnasium, aerobics room, meeting and computer rooms, fitness center with weight room, and administrative offices.

Hernando County YMCA Renovation & Addition
Hernando County YMCA Renovation & Addition

The success of this project's renovation of 5,200 sf and the addition of 6,147 sf allowed for the YMCA to expand its membership in the rapidly growing Hernando County area.  A new gymnasium and aquatics center are being designed for a future expansion.

“Hennessy’s project management procedures are an excellent fit for any client and worked especially well for the YMCA.  The project had to be scheduled around the daily operations of this very busy YMCA facility.  Maintaining day-to-day operations was of utmost importance to this client.

Mike Lantz’s (project superintendent) considerable diplomatic skill and experience allowed him to manage the competing requests and suggestions offered on a constant basis by facility staff and the general YMCA membership.  This people management ability is highly desirable when running projects for membership organizations.  Mike’s ability to maintain his balance and perspective throughout the construction period is another reason the project was so successful.  Our firm would definitely recommend Hennessy Construction Services.  We will also look forward to working with you again on another project and hope that it will be soon.”

Palm Harbor YMCA Fitness & Aquatic Center
Palm Harbor YMCA Fitness & Aquatic Center
The scope for this project included both preconstruction services and construction for a much needed expansion of this busy YMCA facility. Hennessy completed Phase 1 construction of the new facility in 2004 and within a year and a half of opening, the growth in membership made it apparent that expansion was needed.

The new addition includes an expanded Wellness Center, group exercise and aerobics, a multi-purpose room and social activity rooms. Renovations to the existing building created a new atrium style lobby and tie-in for the overall larger facility.

YMCA of the Suncoast Administrative Offices Renovation
YMCA of the Suncoast Administrative Offices Renovation
Hennessy Construction Services was asked by the YMCA of the Suncoast to renovate a newly leased space to house their expanding administrative operations.

The project scope included upgrading the building's entrance to provide for ADA accessibility, sealing the exterior walls, and re-painting the metal roof panels. Interior renovations included demolition and creation of an enlarged lobby, individual offices and a new open office area. Interior spaces received new carpet and paint throughout the facility.

Despite permitting delays, the project was completed to meet the Owner's deadline for vacating their former office space.
