| Using Technology to See Into the Future - Hennessy Construction Uses CAD Technology on Complicated MEP Work at Westminster Shores Bahama Place |
![]() While the above picture may look like a pile of snakes wrestling, in reality it is a glimpse into the future. The Westminster Shores project team has utilized 3-D CAD technology to plan the extremely complicated layout of duct work over the Kitchen. The electronic drawings have been passed between the Engineers and subcontractors working on the electrical, plumbing and HVAC scopes at the Bahama Place. Included in the above diagram are the supply and return ducts, grease ducts, soda chase lines, bathroom exhaust, make up air, chilled water lines, storm drains and sanitary lines. After approval by all parties involved, the CAD software sends out this information to a computerized fabrication machine that calculates sizes, shears, bends and assembles the duct shapes automatically. Creating coordination drawings such as these is a timely procedure but one vital to the progression of a project as detailed as Westminster Shores Bahama Place. "Spending that extra time up front virtually eliminates any surprises in the field," said Senior Project Superintendent Mark McClearnon. Pictured below is a close up schematic of one particular area of duct work as well as a photo of the finished and installed product.
